I recently refinanced a rental property and after closing began receiving suspicious postcards in the mail at the property address.
These postcards came in different colors like green and pink. Each had different 800/866/855 numbers on them, but all wanted me to call “about an important matter regarding this loan.”
And each had my name printed on the card along with the name of the bank I used for the loan.
Here are images of what they looked like. The reverse side was entirely blank.
The cards also contained a “Mortgage Authentication Phrase” and/or a “Mortgage ID”.
Upon calling the provided phone numbers, I figured out this was a scam to sell likely nonexistent mortgage protection insurance or coverage.
The scammers are getting the name of the borrower and lender (bank or credit union) and sending out these phishing postcards in an attempt to lure in gullible consumers.
So beware of this mortgage protection insurance scam if you recently bought or refinanced a home or mortgage.
Call it like you see it,
