3. Nuclear Ships
Shipping accounts for nearly 3% of global CO2 emissions, so the industry is looking for ways to lower that output. One possible solution is nuclear-powered ships. This is increasingly possible thanks to smaller, mass-produced reactors. If the industry decides to take this route, it would still be years before the first ships sail. 4. Solar in the Arctic
The northernmost solar farm in the world just went online in Norway. It was installed by state-owned energy company Store Norske Energi at Isfjord Radio on the island of Spitsbergen. It will largely replace diesel use, reducing emissions by 70% on the island. This is the start of a plan to potentially outfit many remote, off-grid communities throughout the arctic with renewable energy. These plans rely on there being enough copper to go into the panels and other tech that would make it possible.
