The Government Wants Robots to Fight China

It’s not often that our elected officials get ahead on anything, especially when it comes to technology.

But in a rare instance to the contrary, we’re seeing politicians get ahead of technology before it truly hits the mainstream. In this case, it has to do with robotics and government use.

Just recently, two senators, Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Chuck Schumer of New York, introduced the American Security Robotics Act. The bill aims to prohibit the Federal Government from procuring unmanned ground vehicles from adversarial countries. This includes autonomous patrol vehicles and humanoid robots.

Though not specifically named in the bill, it’s largely aimed at companies linked to China’s government and military, citing security concerns first and foremost.

It’s the kind of common-sense legislation that’s increasingly in short supply in Washington these days, with the added side effect (intentional or not) of giving domestic robotics companies an advantage when it comes to securing government contracts.

It’s similar to how Chinese electric cars are effectively banned from being sold to US consumers, with the difference here being the politicians are acting well before the technology in question has gone mainstream.

But they see the writing on the wall and realize that the widespread adoption of robotics is a matter of when, not if.

And if you’ve been watching any technology spaces recently, you know that it’s a lot bigger than children’s toys and robot vacuums.

Robotics as a sector is infiltrating everything from delivery to manufacturing to defense. The stuff of science fiction is quickly becoming reality as the technology becomes more sophisticated and the advancements move by leaps and bounds in a matter of years instead of decades.

Couple that with costs that are coming down over time, and it won’t be long before the average person has a robot in their home the same way they have a smartphone in their pocket.

This is something the broader market hasn’t woken up to yet, but some savvy investors are preparing for. While all of the hype is still focused on artificial intelligence and the components that go with that, there are some who believe robotics is the next natural step.

Robotics paired with the sophisticated AI making its way into the market has the potential to be the kind of game-changing tech we saw with the internet decades ago.

Big enough that Morgan Stanley thinks it may be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $60 trillion, globally.

It’s big enough that Nvidia, the company at the forefront of the AI boom, is now dedicating resources into elevating this sector too.

And it’s doing that by buying equity stakes in the companies that have the technology to get ahead of the competition and reap the rewards when the robots go mainstream.

Nvidia is building something big. They’ve already shown the market what they’re capable of doing to become one of the top companies in the world. Now they’re about to do it again.

All of the details can be found in a brand-new presentation in Digital Dispatch.

It explains just what this industry will look like, the timeline over which this is all likely to happen, and gives you the names of the companies Nvidia is buying up before the real profit comes in.

You saw what happened during the AI boom, now see what comes next.
